Communications and Engagement

The Communications and Engagement workstream underpins our objectives to advocate, connect and share with the sector, managing the channels, content and connections that keep everyone informed and involved.

Overview

Keeping the Sector Connected

The Communications and Engagement workstream is responsible for making sure the right information reaches the right people at the right time. From sector updates and digital channels to working groups and regional events, this workstream connects the ISG to the industry it serves.

In 2026, the workstream is focused on making sure the guidance, tools and programmes being developed across every workstream reach the people who need them, through consistent, well-timed communications that are written to be genuinely useful rather than just informative.

Communications and Engagement is led by Shannyn Hiroti, Operations & Engagement Manager - TTM ISG and Simon McManus,CEO - TTM ISG.

Road Works Safety Cross-Sector Working Group

The Road Works Safety Cross-Sector Working Group was established in direct response to the findings of the 2025 Traffic Controller Safety Survey, which surfaced persistent risks, abuse and unsafe driver behaviour faced by roadworkers across New Zealand.

The group brings together representatives from NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi, New Zealand Police, Auckland Transport, WorkSafe New Zealand, ACC, Civil Contractors New Zealand, Transporting New Zealand and the AA, alongside industry and road user voices. The focus is on practical, risk-based improvements grounded in the real world experiences of traffic controllers and people working on the frontline every day. By working collectively across agencies, regulators, industry and road users, the group is helping make road worksites safer, more consistent and better understood, so that roadworkers and road users alike get home safely to their whānau.

Alongside this, the Communications and Engagement Working Group supports the broader sector communications effort, bringing together practitioners and stakeholders to shape how information is developed, shared and received across the industry. This group ensures that what we communicate reflects the real needs of the sector and reaches the people who need it most.

Events and Regional Engagement

Engagement goes well beyond broadcasting. Regional events and koreros create the face-to-face connections that build trust and enable the kind of practical problem solving that digital channels alone cannot support. In 2026, the workstream is supporting roadshows, regional connect events and the inaugral Clearway Conference and Awards 2026 coming this September 3rd to Shed 10, Auckland.

The ISG is also growing its presence at third-party conferences and industry events, contributing sector-specific perspectives to wider conversations about road safety, infrastructure and workforce development. This positions the TTM sector as a confident, capable and increasingly influential voice in New Zealand's infrastructure landscape.
