Educating kids on TTM
Kids in the deep south have been learning about the importance of temporary traffic management with the help of Dunedin-based supplier, Traffic Management & Control (TMC Ltd).
The team at TMC Ltd have had multiple schools visit their depot. Aimed at Years 1 to 2, the 5 to 7-year-olds take part in free, fun TTM-themed games and basic safety education.
"It’s part of our push to raise wider community and public awareness around traffic management — and it’s been a real hit with the schools so far," says Managing Director Peter Graham.
"The children, along with accompanying parents and teachers, were blown away by the science and design work that goes into planning road works; which signs and equipment we use, and why we decide to use them depending on the situation. They were also fascinated by the vehicles and our personal safety gear too.”
Feedback from schools, and parents, has been overwhelmingly positive, with kids more aware of TTM and why signs and equipment are in place.
Further north, Trafficsafe visited Churchill Park School in Auckland to educate students about safety around road works.
“It’s fantastic to see teams around the country taking the initiative and engaging with their local communities. We hear from road workers on the ground that they understand the role of better education as part of the solution to keeping road users and workers safe around road works, and just like we see with sustainability, our young people can also influence the behaviours of the whole family,” says TTM-Industry Steering Group CEO Simon McManus.
